Connie

I want to write something really nice and a short history of memories about my Aunt Connie. For now, I am just going to share the obituary.

I will share one picture for now. Connie had asked me to make an Avatar version of her and my cousin (her daughter) Suzanne. Here was the results. She was so happy that I could do this and it makes me just as happy that I could do it for her.

Click on the picture for her obituary.
Love and miss you Connie, so very much.

My First Time Wine Tasting

It has been a long time since I blogged. A lot of that was due to the fact that I was very busy with the wedding and dealing with some family tragedy all at the same time. It actually seems that in my age now, family and friend tragedy’s are far too many a year. That is one reason it really sucks to get older, aside of course from the other crap that it entails.

Anyway, I am getting off topic. This blog is purely about my, long-time-due, reaction to alcohol..in the form of Wine. Many people hit their low spot before they are even legal to drink. I on the other hand had promised myself to never drink after losing my grandfather to the drug. Well, that promise broke at age 23. Even so, I was still determined not to have an empty-your-stomach reaction to the drink. I would always monitor myself as to not get that sick. As it is with me, I mentally fight the urge to upchuck as does my body.

Regardless, this is the tale.

After I had a taste of Stella Rosa wine and a determination to decorate my very own kitchen with grapes, I decided to see what kind of wine suits me and what kind Robert would be interested in as neither of us know our wine taste. What is the best way to find out what wine tickles your taste buds? WINE TASTING!!

After mentioning this to Robert’s brother and sister in law, Paul and Joanne, they were all for a wine tasting expedition. Enter, Temecula.

Sunday morning started out alright…we had snow on my Nitro out in Beaumont. I had a “gourmet” Jack-in-the-Box breakfast then we were off to Temecula. Our designated driver was Joanne (THANK YOU!). Even so, I was not PLANNING on drinking too much as we still had to drive home later that night. They stopped for lunch but as we had just eaten not long ago, Robert and I decided not to eat lunch: Mistake #1. We had our snacks and water so we thought we were set for our wine tasting.

First Winery Thornton, there was very limited parking so we skipped that one. Next, Baily Winery, one of the family owned wineries in Temecula. There was better parking here. As we walked towards the building, I couldn’t help admiring the décor as it was like a castle, complete with gargoyles and creatures “climbing” the walls. Should this have been a warning? Inside was of the same theme, tapestries, arches, and even a knight. Awesome! We squeezed in and bought our 5 tastings for $10. We mentioned that we hadn’t been wine tasting before and was our first time. Our sommelier was VERY generous and gave us a large sampling of all 12 wines on their list! Mistake #2. Our favorites were: Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon and Meritage. Robert was really interested in the Meritage as it was a wine that went well with his favorite, Prime Rib. I’m not even going to go into our delight in the Port.

This trip proved fruitful for Baily. We got the sale price on the Rose and split that with Paul and Joanne. A case of Rosé for $75! (Retail is $169). Not only were we happy about our smokin’ deal we were ALL highly buzzed and giggling and laughing as we walked outside to the car. I of course was snapping pictures of our surroundings and continued to as the day moved on.

Next stop, Stuart Cellars. This place was busier than Baily, but we found our little spot and this time Robert picked our limited list of wines to taste as I was preoccupied “happily” instructing the New Jersey girls how to use their camera. The wines here tasted pretty good but we still were happier with the wines at Baily. Here, we didn’t get to keep the glasses. They were smaller anyway, probably a 14oz glass vs Baily’s 19oz. And boy, once our 6 tastings were up they snatched those glasses back before I could even blink…slowly anyway. As we left Stuart Cellars, I was REALLY feeling good! So good that while I was taking a picture of some old fashioned piece of machinery, I stumbled on the curb and slowly fell on the ground. I didn’t feel a thing and kept snapping my pictures with the camera upside down and laughing. Oh but that was fun.

Back in the car and after some water and snacks (Chili Cheese Fritos) we were on to the next one. Wilson Creek Winery. This one had the line out the door. Nope, not gonna wait. Though, we really probably should have and let the alcohol get processed that was roaming around in our empty stomachs. We did stop to take some pictures. I was of course talking to anyone I could say hello to and tell them how awesome the world is.

Last stop before the 5pm close time was at Monte de Oro Winery. Mistake #3.This time I was practically floating into the winery and taking pictures of the ground. In my defense, there was grape’s and leaves embossed into the stone so that caught my eye. Inside we paid and went to the bar. This time I noticed they were also serving water. Oh, and on one other note, not one of these wineries had a spittoon or anything to spit the wine out. Not sure if I would have used that option anyway but I would still consider that Mistake #4. Next time, I am going to request one or bring along my own. I refuse to spit it onto the ground or back into my glass.

Here, I do not remember the tastes of the wines. I remember enjoying them and that I definitely am one that prefers the darker wines but my head starting spinning so much that after 5/6 wines, I quit. Joanne walked me outside and sat me down on a bench were I drank as much water as I could and babbled on an on about whatever was on my mind. As Joanne said, it was a bonding moment for us. She sober and me drunk with truth serum. I also remember saying Hello! to anyone that I saw. One group came out and a man was wearing a chicken hat. NO JOKE. I commented on how awesome his hat was and he started squawking like a chicken. Fun times.

I vaguely remember walking back to the car. Off to Pat and Oscars for dinner. My head is still spinning like a top and I’m still trying to consume as much water as I can. Enter the restaurant. Mistake #5. Mistake # 6, having a piece of bread while we were waiting to order. By the time they got me to the outside, SECLUDED, table that is where the worst of my shame entered. I had my head on the table the entire time with a plastic bag ready to catch anything. Every time I lifted my head and smelled more garlic I got more and more nauseous. As I am trying to convince myself to rid me of the nausea, crying about how I never want to feel this way again, I finally expel. At the restaurant. I shouldn’t even be blogging about this shame but what is shame without some exposure? Luckily for me, being sick didn’t affect the appetite of my party and there wasn’t anyone near enough for me to ruin their dinners. Thank you to my friends for sitting outside!!

I barely remember the ride home as I slept all the way back to Beaumont. Once we were back at Paul and Joanne’s, Robert got sick. Then we slept for hours and hours. I got back up at around 11:30 feeling better. I had a piece of bread since I had nothing in my stomach. I walked around. I made sure I could walk completely straight and I hadn’t been dizzy since Pat & Oscars. Robert was too sick to do any driving and I think he was still too far gone. We left Beaumont at 12:30am arriving safely home at 2. I had some soup since I knew my stomach needed something and anything too solid made me nauseas.

That seemed to end our First Wine Tasting Expedition. I woke up with a slight headache but I don’t think it was from drinking as I had the same headache the morning of our trip. Stomach took a couple days to recuperate. Enjoy this story for what it is as it will NEVER happen to me again. I for one am one that learns from mistakes….or so time will tell.

In conclusion, my buddy Jack has NEVER treated me as mean as wine. Cheers!!

Revised....

Okay, so since I am having problems making this blog private, I am going to keep this open and create a new one just for personal picture sharing. Otherwise I'll keep things here.

Private...

Hi All,

Well I've decided to make this blog private. I do not like that anyone has the ability to see what I have written that is why I haven't been posting much. So, those of you that I know personally are welcome to have access. Thanks and sorry for any trouble. Hopefully those of my friends will actually check it out now...but we'll see.

In Memory of Cayenne

It's so incredibly hard when I can't seem to find the words to express how I feel. What do you say to someone who has just lost their daughter - a twin none-the-less. No one should have to go through that. And yet it happens as part of life. There is no avoiding it. We try our best to live and that's all we can do. Today I attended the funeral of Cayenne, daughter to one of my best friends Sandie and her husband Donald.

I was honored that they chose the image I took of Cayenne just a little over a year ago for her parents wedding for the funeral. I remember Cayenne running around on "new" legs with two bouquets along with her twin sister Sage. The two girls were so adorable in their matching dresses.

As hard as it is to go over memories, I keep seeing them all in my mind. Cayenne and Sage at the beach for the first time getting soaked and sandy. Crawling around in my office trying to find anything to play with. And I think to myself how horrible it is that such a life had to be cut so short for no reason other than she was born with a heart problem. Aside from the medical issue, that little girl had so much heart to give for such a young age.

And although I'd only had a handful of times with the girls, each one was so very memorable I'll never forget them. My heart goes out to their entire family. Although I don't share the same spiritual views as everyone, I still feel honored to have known Cayenne the times that I did and she will live onin my heart and in those that loved her. The main thing now is she is no longer suffering.

I had originally started on a project to raise money for Sandie to help her stay close to Cayenne while she was in the hospital. That project was too late but will now go towards the family and to the Ronald McDonald charities. If not for that charity, it would have been extremely hard for them to stay close to Cayenne in those months she was in the hospital.

The Wind Blows

Youtube Video-The Wind Blows by All American Rejects

I know that this song has nothing to do with losing a dog, but for some reason...whenever my mind starts to think of Dusti, this song starts playing in my head. And about everytime I start to cry-but I love the song and that I still think of her. Most times I feel like such an idiot, but she was so very important part to my life. I hate going through these emotions but dogs are so worth the heartache for just a small portion of your life. And here I am getting ready to go to the Comic Con and I can't stop thinking of Dusti. So I thought I'd blog about it and share some quotes from the song that even when I'm not listening to it, play through my head. Helps me get through it to write about it.

I'll be fine for awhile...then it'll blow back into my mind.

"I've got to breathe, you can't take that from me, cause it's all that you've left that's mine."

"you're never comin' home to me, that's the hardest thing to see."

"i'll pass outside of your window, you'll be sad that you let me go....you'll feel when the wind blows."

Don't Blink

"Don't Blink, just like that your six years old and you take a nap and you, wake up and you're 25 and your high school sweetheart's becomes your wife. Don't blink, just might miss your babies growin like mine did, turnin' in to Mom's and Dad's, next thing you know, your better half of 50 years is there and been, and you're praying god takes you instead. Trust me friend, a hundred years goes faster than you think. So don't blink.

So I've been trying to slow down, I've been tryin' to take it in, in this here today gone tomorrow we're livin in..

Don't Blink. Life goes faster than you think...."

-Don't Blink by Kenny Chesney

Saturday we arrived at the StageCoach show at 11am. Gates opened at noon. There was a bunch of singers: Darius Rucker (previously Hootie from Hootie and the Blowfish), Little Big Town, Reba McIntire, and the wonderful Brad Paisley. However, the Mane Stage didn't have any performers start until 3:30pm! So, we found our spot on the lawn, parked our Spider-Man chairs and table, and hung out. I was determined to find 2 things: a Straw Hat and a Deck of Cards (we forgot to bring some - didn't know we'd be waiting around til late at night). I was only able to find one of those, the Straw Hat - what a relief! That hat was WONDERFUL protection from the blazing sun on a cloudless day. Robert liked my hat enought that he decided to get one of his own.

On Sunday which we didn't have a pass for was Kenny Chesney. He's also one of my favorite country singers. The song quoted, "Don't Blink" really is a beautiful song that just quoting it doesn't do it justice. If I were you I'd listen to it.

Even so, it has a good meaning. Things really do go too fast. As I think back on StageCoach, it was a long day (cause of that blazing sun) but just a fraction of a blink in our life. I had a wonderful time that day. I always try to make the best of any situation anyway and it definitely isn't easy when it's about 100 degrees and there's a guy chugging on a cigar next to you.

However, the cigar guy finally left and we were able to enjoy the show more. As night starting falling and we were anxiously waiting for Brad to come out (at 9:30pm) we played Sim's Pool on my iPod in between artists. Finally, out Brad came, opening the show with "Mud on the Tires." He also sang: (in no partifular order)

I'm Gonna Miss Her
I'm Just a Guy (in which Robert took me in his arms and danced with me! Robert! Go figure!)
Little Moments
Mr. Policeman
Waiting on a Woman
Celebrity
Wrapped Around
Online
The World
Ticks
Letter to Me
Start a Band
Let the Good Times Roll - with a surprise guest appearance with BB KING! :)
Alcohol
Whiskey Lullaby

I'm sorry to say, I had to blink many a time during this day, but each one was special, well...so to speak. When Brad sang Mr. Policeman his introduction mentioned (not verbatim) that he likes to drive fast, and has a fast car, but the California Highway Patrol just won't let him. Well I happen to know that he has a Dodge Challenger! He got one through our dealership. Too bad I didn't get to meet him!

This surprise birthday present from Robert was so amazingly special that I would love to keep it a tradition. If we get to go again I hope you all decide to join us.

Time Well Wasted

"Those leaves were a foot deep in the yard. And wash me was written all over the car. Watching movies on a day with you wasn't on my list of things to do, but we laid on that couch, girl we never left the house. It was time well wasted, and there's no way I'd trade a few more things that I coulda crossed off my list, for a day that'll never forget. No I didn't get a thing done but I sure soaked up every minute of the memory we were makin, and I count all as Time Well Wasted.

This world spins too fast if you let it, there's always one more thing to do, looking back I never have regretted, takin off early, callin' in sick, lovin' away a sunday afternoon.....it was time well wasted, and there's no way I'd trade a few more things that I coulda crossed off my list , for a day that'll never forget. No I didn't get a thing done but I sure soaked up every minute of the memory we were makin, and I count all as Time Well Wasted." - Brad Paisley

Even though Brad Paisley didn't sing this one at the StageCoach show, but it is one of my all time favorites. Everytime I hear it I remind myself that things don't matter as long as I'm having the time of my life spending it with my loved ones. This is the first song in my next few blog posts. As some of you know, my grandparents both recently went back in the hopsital. Well Grandpa is back at home and Grandma had surgery on the artery in her neck. It was a rough night since there was a large chance she wouldn't make it through. But she did. We all know she's a fighter! :) Anyway, upon reflection I always thing of these four songs.

"Time Well Wasted" by Brad Paisley
"Don't Blink" by Kenny Chesney
"You're Gonna Miss This" by Trace Atkins
"Letter to Me" by Brad Paisley

New Moon Playlist

So if you're a Twilight fan (and why WOULDN'T you be???) you should be familiar with Stephenie's Playlists for each of her books. Now, I am totally in love with that concept. I've created playlists for other movies or books in the past. And although I love her playlist (http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/nm_playlist.html) Especially the songs: Unwell, Pain, I Miss You, and The Reason), I've created my own playlist of songs that are my idea of what Bella's feeling. Some songs are for/from Edward's POV and Jacobs.

So here is my Playlist. Please let me know what you think. I've added any that I had on her list to my playlist to make it more complete. :) Some songs can be applied to two of the characters, but most are for Bella since she's the POV. These are not in any order. I'll do like Stephenie did, E for Edward and J for Jacob. Otherwise, the rest are Bella. I really chose as many for Jacob, since this is more his book than the rest of them are.

1. Sally's Song by Amy Lee (remake from Nightmare before Christmas)
2. When You're Gone by Avril Lavigne
3. Better than Me by Hinder (E)
4. Never There by Hoobastank
5. Please Don't Leave Me by P!nk (I don't know if I'll leave this one in...)
6. Seven Days of Lonely by I Nine
7. Strawberry Fields Forever (J or Bella?) by Jim Sturgess & Joe Anderson (Beatles remake)
8. Beating my Heart by Jon McLauglin (J or E)
9. Stay Beautiful by The Last Goodnight (J)
10. The Right kind of Wrong by Leann Rimes
11. Somebody Else's Song by Lifehouse
12. Missing by Evanescense
13. My Immortal by Evanescense
14. Stolen by Dashboard Confessional
15. What About Now by Daughtry (J)
16. The Damage in your Heart by Weezer (J)
17. Your Guardian Angel by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (E)

Shopaholic Update.

Okay, so I wasn't really off when I made my last blog. They did change a lot of things. They also lied about the content-

Recipe for the movie, Confessions of a Shopaholic:

Ingredients:
(preheat oven to 400degrees)

1/2c idea from Confessions of a Shopaholic
3/4c idea Shopaholic Takes Manhattan
4Tbls idea Shopaholic Ties the Knot
1 gallon of crap from Hollywood
1 160z package of talented actors)

Directions:
Mix all ingredients well, be sure to get all the lumps out. After all, we don't want much to be left of the books in the movie, but we want to be sure readers will see it based on the fact that the characters are there.

Bake:
Bake for 1 hour, 52 minutes, serve and try to enjoy.

Okay, so as you can probably tell, I was VERY unhappy with the movie in relation with the books. I did however feel that all the actors did an outstanding job. I really liked Isla Fisher as Bex, she pulled it off very well. Luke I thought was amazing, even though his character was written poorly compared to the real Luke. Suze was okay. I would have prefered a blonde since that is what she is in the book, but oh well. She was cute anyway. Tarquin, well he was cute, but didn't really have much to do in the movie. Becky's Mom, Jane. Now, I love Joan Cusack, I really do. She's outstanding as an actress. However, I do not think she fit the look at ALL for Becky's mom. I really don't. Her acting seemed to be on top and in character, but it just wasn't anything like I pictured Jane. Same for Grahm. John Goodman did outstanding, but he really didn't look the part. Maybe my problem with all of the is the were all AMERICAN!! They are supposed to be British, and the British are not Americans. Duh!

Anyway, I am trying to remain positive. Derek Smeath's character? Didn't like him one bit. He was nothing like the Derek in the book. And what happend to the friendship and respect he ends up getting for her? I really just missed ol' Smeathey. Really ruined the movie there for me too.
For the most part, the rest of the characters were dooable.

The Girl in the Green Scarf. Really, green? Come on, the scarf was blue so why did they have to change the color? Green = Money? Come on, lame-o. Stick with the color blue. Or, like she said in the book: The Girl in the Dooney and Bourke Scarf. Nothing wrong with that on my end.

Also, Shopaholics annonymous?! ?!?! Oh PLEASE! So what if they really have that or not. I just didn't find it funny.

Okay, okay, yes I'm sorry to keep pointing out the negatives.

For those who haven't seen the movie or read the books, you will probably really enjoy this movie. It does have heart and you really care for Bex even though you want to grab the credit card from her and cut it up. She has a big heart.

One of the best lines, and was quoted out of the books: "If the American economy can be billions of dollars in debt and still survive, So can you." Grahm says to Becky.

One day I may be in a mood to say better things about this movie-but I can't really say anymore. I will say this though: you will see me shopping for this movie when it hits DVD...although I may wait til it's under $15.

Confessions of a Wolverina

Okay, I have been listening to Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic series for a few years now. Granted I only completed the series recently thanks to iTunes having the books to download. I love to listen to them, in fact, it's hard to read them since I've listened to them. All of them.

Confessions of a Shopaholic
Shopaholic takes Manhattan
Shopaholic ties the Knot
Shopaholic and Sister
Shopaholic and Baby

Then, I hear: their making a Shopaholic movie! YAY! Or...so I thought.

After viewing the trailer I started to get worried.

1. It's obvious she's NOT British

2. Luke know's "prada" (WTF???)
3. She slaps a Fin-ish guy

4. Since she's not British as it seems, maybe it's mixing the first two books and she's in New York?
5. And if that's the case...where's Morning Coffee???
6. Writing about shoes?? How about the awesome article she did for the Daily World?

7. Does she work with Luke now too???

So finally I go on the site, and lo and behold, what I expect: two books in one movie. Not only that, but the synopsis does not give me hope. Nor does the cast. I mean, Michael is not even listed. And who in the world is Alette Naylor and Edgar West? Where is Janet and Martin? I understaned it can't be exact! But at least the producers and writers etc of Twilight kept mostly to the book! This isn't based on Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhattan! IT should say BASED ON THE IDEA FROM CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC AND SHOPAHOLIC TAKES MANHATTAN.

Okay okay, slow down Lani....you haven't even SEEN the movie yet.....

Maybe I'm being a leetle too harsh...

Okay, if I ultimately decide to see it, cause of right now I'm still skeptical. IF I see it, I'll let you know if my guesses are correct and I will remove the "new" wallpaper I created for this movie.

I REALLY wanted to like this movie, really I do! Now I'm just disappointed already.

The top picture is the "preview" the full wallpaper is here:

Westminster FFA - thing of the Past?

I have just recently been informed of a change to the Agriculture program at the Westminster High School. The HBUHSD is trying to severely cut the program. Don't you usually see those steers off the side of the 405 freeway? Have you noticed that there isn't any right now?

That is because the "superintendent" has put a HOLD on all large livestock. The students for the first time in years (decades) are not allowed to have a steer, pig, or sheep. The deadline for entry into the fair is around a month away. Due to "farting around" the administration "lost" whatever class they normally have to receive funding from the Carl Perkins foundation. This part get's fuzzy for me, so when I receive more information on it be sure I will let you know.

The fact that there are no animals on the farm right now does speak volumes. Would the staff or Jerry just "let" the animals go? No, he would have and has fought for them. However, it is hard to keep a fight going when the facts you are given are thrown in your face as complete opposites.
I know that may be confusing to whoever is reading this and has no idea what's going on in the program. I just received this information tonight

The super is saying that they aren't "closing" the farm. I'm sure that he is right too. He's not closing it. No, he's ripping it to shreds knowing full well that the wounds will never heal and then the farm will eventually die.

Dramatic I know.

I know I'm putting words into his "mouth" but I honestly can see that being how his mind is working. After reading his "announcement" on the HSBUHSD, I'm sure the guy has lots of pressure dealing with the current economic status. Still doesn't make it right.
What I also don't get, is he's throwing numbers around (in the millions mind you) about other budget issues, and also about getting more portables for the campus?!! If classes are being cut, why the hell would you need more portables??? Again, I don't have the facts on it but that is what I gathered from that meeting. It is hard to understand issues in which you've never heard of before. So again, I apologize if I confuse.

Although stated in the Super's letter: "..I hear the concern in our parents’ voices that there are rumors of program reductions in areas that have been integral parts of their children’s lives, when I hear a question from a valuable employee about whether or not they will have a job in the near future, it saddens me greatly." He may say it but his statements at the meeting did not give me ANY feeling that he was saddened by the concern, more that he didn't want to look like a bad guy so he said whatever he could to make everyone else look like an idiot. Obviously you'd have to be there to get it.

I believe there was reporter from the Orange County Register there so please keep your eyes open for any news article. I am currently doing the same. Now, one thing I do understand is that there is an economic recession that is hitting everyone very hard and for some way beneath the belt. However, this does not mean you can just lightly cut up a program, even if it is a small one. It still is a crucial program that is unique in this area.

How else is a city student to learn about agriculture? You take out the Farm and you change an entire education system. Do you like to eat steak? Not a steak person but enjoy chicken? Or turkey? Or Ham? Kiss it goodbye, because if this is the first in many cuts, we'll soon have no one who know anything about market meat - we'll all have to raise our own at home. Oh wait? You never got educated in taking care of animals? Too bad so sad. Guess we're all gonna have to switch to veggies.

What I know (or think are) of the current proposed changes are these:

-Animals reduced to rabbits and chickens - nothing else

-Reduce the pumpkin patch to a small little garden.

-Remove the Agriculture Specialist Position (Jerry's Job) This REALLY is the backbone of this course. If Jerry's job is eliminated, the farm cannot exist. He does everything - anything needs fixing - done. Hands on training with students-done. Caring and inspire to push yourself and others to get the job done-check. That is still not even half of what he does.

I urge anyone who values the importance of this type of program then please keep your eye out for anything that relates to it. I will keep what I can posted. They aren't saying much about the actual facts; they want to keep everyone confused so they can sneak underneath and knock the feet from under the agriculture program as was clearly EVIDENT by the Superintendent's little "speech" at the end of the meeting that was purposely done at the end as to invoke no room for argument. It was a sad state of affairs. The meeting and everything said was recorded and I hope someone will be able to get that for everyone to view.

If you would like to express your opinions, you may write directly to the board. I have the address. Or even go further as to send letter's to the State officials. I found out one of the head's of the agriculture department in Sacramento PERSONALLY contacted Mr. Nakanishi (aka Mr. N) about what he heard on this issue and was not happy about, and had intended to come to this meeting but was unable to. I will look into that too and see if I can write a letter.
This meeting was an "Information" meeting and that the actual "action" won't be until they've done more research into it. So, that's all for now. I hope it's not too confusing. I'm tired and too angry to make much sense I'm sure, but I'm trying. I wish I had a website to point out to you the specifics of this issue, but they don't want the fact actually posted since that would mean clarification. Clarification must be a non existent word in their dictionary.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

So, things have been kinda crazy this year. So far, December was by FAR a busy crazy month! Starting out of course with the dreaded tick incident. Followed closely by parties and events galore, and ending with my grandpa back in the hospital again. Thankfully, the tick is long gone, the parties were a hit, and my grandpa is back home!

So, I don't have too much to say on the matter's but I will post some pictures here for you. Better yet, I think I'll go create a scrapblog and put more of them there. I just can't get enough of scrapbooking!

Want to see....

A Wolverina actually, literally FLIPPING OUT? Mix Lani with a tick in an area that a tick should never be, and voila! Instant FREAKING OUT-HYPERVENTILATING-CRAZY-PANICKED-WOLVERINA.

Got in the shower last night to discover on my chest a tick. Not realizing at first that it was a tick, I tried to knock it off (thinking it was a spider) - yeah, would not come off of me. I really started freaking out. It's about 11pm. My Mom is fast asleep, but in my frantic attempt to figure out what the HELL to do, I jump out of the shower, dry off where I can and run to Mommy.

Did you know that Ticks have a chemical in their saliva that acts as a neurotoxin? Yeah, it actually "doctors" your body so you have no FRICKING idea that it's even biting you!! Not only that, the more you agitate it (like I did trying to get it off) the more saliva it will inject into you body!! The saliva can carry all sorts of diseases, just depends on how many hosts it's already fed on. Oh, and it doesn't end there, the thing actually REGURGITATES whatever the hell it's been feeding of you which in turn is only more reason for you to get a disease that's floating around in it's tiny little body.

So, I can't even look at it. It's making me sick and I can't stop shaking. Finally, Mom calms me down enough to get a good look at it. We get the tweezers out and she is able to pull the fucker out - and what looks to have been perfectly since we couldn't see any remnants of his head or biting pieces. Thank you Mom for saving my life! I don't know that I could ever ever do what she did. If she wasn't already my hero, she sure is now!

The thing is now in a baggie. I have NO idea where this guy came from (yes pretty sure it's a male). And since I cannot sleep after this ordeal (right now it's 3:30am) I've been researching it all over the Internet. I have an idea what breed it is, but I am taking it to the Vet in the morning to see if they know what it is so we know whether to treat the house. I have a feeling it got on me from either my grandma's house or here as I was walking inside. It looks like it just got on me since I know it wasn't there this morning and no much of him had actually gone into me, nor does it look like he got any blood since he's still flat as a board.. I've checked the dogs as much as I could in all their fur, and I don't see any. What I gathered from the internet is the tend to be in area's on the dog that have less fur. Easier to bite them that way. And I also checked the common areas, and found nothing. Yet anyways.

Let me tell you, the image in my head right now is so horribly disgusting, I think I'd rather watch Saw right now. And those of you who know me will know that I will NEVER watch that movie. But if I could pick which image to be in my mind, something from that movie would HAVE to be better than the image from that damn Tick.

Oh, and Brad Paisley? I don't think I'll be able to listen to that song for a LOOOOONG time. I don't want ANY Ticks on me ever again! The day that I do I just very well may keel over. And thanks to Robert for talking to me, or listening to me continue to freak out afterwards. ThanX To Leah Simpson for talking with me to get my mind off of it-amazing what a time difference can do!

Here are two pictures. One's by my cell phone, the black speck is the size of the tick next to a penny. The other is a closer up pic by the Canon SD I have, cropped. Not something I ever wanna have on me again!

Twilight the Movie

Okay People, most of you know that I have already seen Twilight. That I was at the 12:20am show at the Bella Terra on Thursday Night/Friday Morning. First of all, Mom and I get there at about 9pm. I'm wearing my "Bite Me" shirt with an image of red lips and fangs.

Huntington Beach:Oh my gosh! It is a bloody madhouse! There are so many people all over the place that you couldn't tell where one line began or it ended. It took us about 10 minutes to finally find the end of the line for 12:20. Wanna know how we found it? The Manager. He was walking by us when my Mom told him our situation. That situation being: I'd followed the line from where 12:20 started and asked people what time they were waiting for. One section said the 12:20, then a couple people down, it turned into 12:10, then 12:01. WTF? So, the manager personally walked us to the end of the line, which he had a time finding too. Not as bad as we did, but then again nothing made sense. Turns out what was happening, so many people were sitting down that the lines were merging. You couldn't tell what line was what. So as we're looking to get into line, the security guards were making everyone stand up and line up since it was a fire hazard. It so was (and reminded me of the Comic Con) a fire hazard. You could barely walk!

So, after waiting from 9pm to 12am (3 hours); the "curtains" finally went up. The first trailer for the movie was Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Now, the first quarter or even first half of the trailer, you couldn't even HEAR what they were saying, there was so many people, ahem, teenagers yelling! Great I thought to myself...hopefully this is not a preview of what our movie will be like. My favorite movie trailer besides HP6 was Confessions of a Shopaholic. I've been a Sophia Kinsella fan for years and am SO X-Cited her book is finally seeing the screen. I hope it makes it to Shopaholic and Sister and Shopaholic and Baby, those two were amazingly funny! Luckily the screaming wasn't as bad as the HP trailer, and was almost comical to hear everyone "shhhhhh"ing people. They did scream when Edward made his appearance though, which was to be expected. Anyway, I digress. This is after all supposed to be about Twilight. SO, I will have my first section be for those who haven't seen it, and the rest will be a breakdown of what I thought about certain scenes, etc. SO I'll have a spoiler warning before I write it.

On the whole, I really adored this movie. We all know that books and movies can never share the exact same feelings nor keep to the book exactly. Some good movies that have kept close to the book is Harry Potter 1 and even 2. The third and after seemed to REALLY deviate from the book, but then again those were longer than the first books, and they really tried I think to make it enjoyable, so I'm okay with that. I've learned long ago to detach myself from book to movie in order to enjoy the movie on it's own. Twilight is a 512 page book. On Audio it is 11 discs, roughly about 13-15 hours. There is no way they'll be able to get all the book in the movie. And honestly, they have to try and make the movie appealing to the non-Twilight audience...although that may be a smaller crowd than not! :) Me personally, as much as I love the book and everything in it, I like the movie to be slightly different - give it a fresh take but still hold true to the story, the characters, and the critical moments. I feel that this movie did that. Each actor did an outstanding job portraying their characters. You got the whole feeling of awkwardness that the two main character's relationship was about.

The Cullens were dead on. I thought the Native Americans were represented well. I was one that purchased the Twilight soundtrack and was pleasantly surprised to hear all the songs (or at least most of them) playing during the movie. It helps me now to remember which scene was which by the music. My favorite songs stick out in my mind, but I won't spoil those for you here. Cons: I think out of everything, my biggest problem was the director's style. There were some shots that I thought the camera was either too close, or the movement was off. For example, some shots seemed to throw off the moment because of the positioning, and at one point I could swear I saw the shadow of the cameraman/woman on the actor. So my hope is the director of photography or the director, whoever was in charge of that, learns and makes sure it moves more smoothly in the next films. That however, was not enough to make me not like the movie. Bella's Lullaby. I read a review by: Saffron Starlet(http://www.aintitcool.com/node/39154) and one thing mentioned that I agree with is the part about Bella's Lullaby. It is such an important thing that was one of the crucial moments that I remember carrying over into New Moon, yet didn't get much attention in the movie. But at least it was still apart of the story.

All in all, the story was intact, the characters brilliant, the feel of the movie was there. Although you don't connect with Bella the same way you do in the book, since you kind of ARE her, it still holds true to her and what she went through. You can count on me seeing this one again and it's a MUST BUY on DVD. SPOILER ALERT!! SPOILER ALERT!! If you haven't seen the movie yet (shame on you unless you are seeing it soon). Stop reading if you don't want to know.

(below "ticket" is the Spoiler Parts)

Okay, now My favorite Scenes and Reviews!!!:

Baseball Game. I loved it! This is one point where I really liked the directing style. I thought every shot got me excited. Could have done with maybe MORE thunder, but otherwise it was great! Really wish I could be there watching. My favorite Player was Alice. As she was pitching, you were just mesmerized. Maybe it's seeing a Female Pitch like no Man ever could. Even though they deviated from the book with the introduction of the Nomads, I was still just excited. Found myself holding my breath in anticipation of what happens next. Was really glad to see Edward there ready to kill, but unhappy that they didn't emphasize on his snarling, I really wanted to hear him snarl. For those of you who like the Music, Supermassive Black Hole by Muse is played at this scene. Lovin it!!!

Meet the Cullens. Yes, it was different from the book since in this scene they were preparing human food for Bella. Who'd already eaten since she knew they don't eat food which also wasn't part of the original meeting of the Cullens. However, the welcoming feeling I got from that was enchanting. Then Rosalie goes and breaks the bowl. Just classic. I think if Stephenie could be proud of any addition in the movie, it would be that.

Diamond Edward. I have to say, I was disappointed when he first stood in the sunlight. I couldn't see very much of him sparkling. The second time he was shown laying in the meadow represented it much better. However, I also was disappointed in the fact that he was "ashamed" of how he looked in the sun. But after thinking about it, in the book we are from Bella's point of view and she thinks he's completely beautiful in every way. He on the other hand doesn't think so. And I thought that we got a better view of how Edward looked from the outside rather than from Bella's lovestruck point of view. So I have to say Kudo's to the movie makers. I'd just like to know Stephenie's point of view on that. I for one did not read the illegal copy of the drafted book of Midnight Sun so I still only know from Bella's point of view, and the one chapter of Midnight Sun that Stephenie released. Otherwise, aside from the first shot of him in the Sun, I thought it was AWESOME seeing Diamond Edward.

Edward Vs. James: I admit, I was worried on this scene only because from the book's point of view, Bella was unconscious/in pain to most of what happened once Edward got there to save her. Yet, I thought this scene was done perfectly. The terror you feel for Bella is there. James's sadistic torturing can only get pain responses from Bella and never once does she falter in her position not to have Edward ruin his life avenging her, even after the horrendous leg breaking. Which is how I felt while in the book, scared for her. She's so noble about Edward it just shows me that she's truly in love with him, not just an infatuation. Then, I was ready to cheer when the family got there and took over the disposal of James. I was afraid they would have Edward kill James in this movie which would have been, to me, the total opposite of what that scene was about. Then, the ever very perfect, Alice, just kicked ass! Totally loved her action towards James. Lastly, we have the hospital with Edward pretending to sleep, just classic. Oh but I loved all of it!

Least favorite: The Diner. For some reason, they added all that extra screen time with Bella and her father. Now, don't get me wrong, I like Charley. And I like their relationship. But I think the killing of Charley's longtime friend wasn't something that needed to be in the movie. To me Charley is a very caring person, and regardless of how long he'd knows someone doesn't really matter to me as part of the story. I also thought it was unnecessary to show the Nomad's killing humans. We know enough about vampires, even through Edwards disgust at the monster inside him, to not need the extra time on the Nomads. Their time is the end and that's where I think it shoulda stayed. Anyway, back to Charley. We get to know Charley through Bella which is mostly at home, and rather than eat at a diner, I would have liked to show her cooking more for Charley since that is when they normally conversed. Also, to me, Charley's friend Harry should have been more prominent in the story rather than an unknown character that dies. Maybe this all was necessary to show that he is protective of his daughter even though up to this time they haven't spent a lot of time together. But I think the same could have been accomplished in the house. (Oh, but I did love the pepper spray theme) So that is my Review. I may add more posts later on, and edit what I come up with after more pondering of this wonderful movie. Thank you Stephenie Meyer for giving us Twilight.

Another Problem: I also realized another crucial part(s) that was missing from the movie. Background of the Cullens. They touched upon them but didn't specifically address them. Maybe they're saving that for the next movie? I don't know. But most of all, ALICE! She was a major part of James psychotic tracking mind, the one that got away! Why couldn't that be mentioned? So...I guess maybe if they're smart, they'll add more backgrounds in the second..but who know.

So there you have it. I actually just today, this Sunday, I finished listening to Twilight on CD. I was up to The Hunt when I went to the movies. And I tell you, it just amazes me how awesome that book it. And Damn Ebert and Roper or whoever the hell on that show gives things a thumbs down. Although, maybe not, since about 95% of the movies they give thumbs up too, ususally end up being utter crap, so the thumbs down is actually a compliment.

Rather than post some opinions, I'm sharing this video with you. The song is:
Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance.
Besides this being one of my favorite songs, it can sometimes work with my feelings. Obviously I'm not a male so there are some parts that wouldn't be my "literal" point of view. Anyway, take it for what you want to. Practically every statistic can be tweaked to your advantage.

Particularly, these words stick out in my mind,
they are at the end of the song:

"The disappointed faces of your peers
Take a look at me cause I could not care at all

Do or die
You'll never make me
Because the world, will never take my heart
Though you try, you'll never break me

We want it all, we wanna play this part
Wont explain or say I'm sorry
I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scar

Give a cheer, for all the broken
Listen here, because it's only..
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero

Just a boy, who's wanna sing his song
Just a man, I'm not a hero
I DON'T CARE!!

We'll Carry on,
We'll carry on....."

Warning: Not for the Faint of Hearted (Explicit Content)

I'm going to start out by saying What the FUCK??!?! (MAJOR SPOILERS ALERT IN ALL CASES! Those being the movie in question, Atonement, The Painted Veil, Clerks II, The Punisher, Message in a Bottle, and Titanic.)

(Note by Wolverina: the foul language has been "whited" out so if you want to read the bad words, highlight the text. I hope that helps Bob ;)- Updated 9-22-08)

My Mom shows me a new movie they got called Griffin & Phoenix. It's got two cuties in it: Dermot Mulroney and Amanda Peet. And it's got all the looks of a fun romantic comedy with two decent performers.

Case in Point: This movie is NOT a comedy. I'll give it romantic, since romantic doesn't necessarily mean that it will be a love story with a happy ending. Romance doesn't necessarily mean "love". In fact, it can be completely opposite to what other believes is just a short story. According to Wikipedia:

"Many medieval romances recount the marvellous adventures of a chivalrous, heroic knight, often of super-human ability, who, abiding chivalry's strict codes of honour and demeanour, goes on a quest, and fights and defeats monsters and giants, thereby winning favour with a lady. The story of the medieval romance focuses not upon love and sentiment, but upon adventure."

I learned that way on in English Lit, when they talked about Romance, that didn't mean I was going to read my love story, it was going to be something more than that. Maybe we'd see the "favour with a lady" but not typically. Yet, when a movie in this day and age describes it's genre as a romantic comedy - it is widely assumed that it is the typical "chick flick."

Wikipedia's definition of Romantic Comedy Movies:
"Romantic comedy films, colloquially known as romcom, are movies with light-hearted, humorous plotlines, centered around romantic ideals such as a true love able to surmount most obstacles. Romantic comedy films are a sub-genre of comedy films as well as of romance films. Because of their appeal to women, romantic comedies are sometimes dismissed as "chick flicks"
."

Typically there are a series of events that leads to two people who fall in love - and they all live happily ever after and shit. That is the kind of romantic comedy I expect when I learn that about a movie. I do NOT expect a sappy - depressing story about two TERMINALLY ILL people falling in love. I am sure the writer wanted to let the audience know that the point of his story is to live life to it's fullest since it can be so short and quick. I get that. I understand it. I know it. I think it's one of the worst things in this universe. I don't however want to sit through 102 fucking minutes of two people living the life they never tried before they were diagnosed with cancer.

We all know that cancer is a very REAL, very SCARY thing! Yes it can happen to anyone at any time for NO reason whatsoever! And it is typically painful! Had this movie described itself as: A heartwarming romantic drama that will touch your hearts and understand the importance of love....I may have been more forgiving. But no: this movie, and i quote, states: "Amanda Peet and Dermot Mulroney star in this heartwarming romantic COMEDY about first impressions, last chances, and the enduring power of love."

Bull. Fucking. Shit.

COMEDY when it is related to a movie should include something FUNNY! Or something witty that makes you think and laugh and yes cry too. Nicholas Sparks is an author that does the same type of things. But you know just by reading the description of that book into movie that it is going to be sad. Take another depressing movie I've seen is "Message in a Bottle," where the description says "Kevin Costner as Garret and Robin Wright Penn as Theresa bring high voltage starpower to Message in a Bottle, a tale of love lost and found based on Nicholas Sparks' bestseller. 'You Choose - the past or the future. Pick one and stick with it,' Garret's spry father Dodge (Paul Newman) advises. The advise sticks. So does the impact of this tender, movingly filmed tale." No where in that description, nor the rest on the DVD box EVER mentions that it's a comedy. Cause it ISN'T!! The guy fucking dies as he realizes Theresa is more important than everything else he's done with his life! Too late for him though.

If the writer for Griffen & Phoenix wants to compete with Mr. Sparks, let the audience know!! Don't try to chalk it off like a god damned "romantic comedy." I love Romeo and Juliet- Shakespeare says it right out in the front that the two lovers die. I also enjoyed The Painted Veil and even Atonement although not NEARLY as much as Mia did, and I found that The Painted Veil was a much better story-a well done DRAMA. And yet in Atonement both characters die. That's fine- it is what the story is and is well told. AND THEY DON'T SAY IT'S A COMEDY!!!

What I've experienced through my studies and life, Comedy doesn't always mean that it will be funny to everyone. After all, Greeks were heavy into Comedy - but their Comedy is not like an American Romantic Comedy. It is more tragic comedy and twisted fuckers that do some crazy shit - like Monty Python as Defined by Wikipedia as a social satire. Makes more sense to me!

"Comedy was one of two principal drama forms in ancient Greece, the other being tragedy. Athenian comedy is conventionally divided into three periods, Old Comedy, Middle Comedy, and New Comedy.

The most important dramatist of the Old Comedy was Aristophanes. His works define the legacy of Old Comedy, with their pungent political satire and abundance of sexual and scatological innuendo. Aristophanes lampooned the most important personalities and institutions of his day, as can be seen in his buffoonish portrayal of Socrates in The Clouds, and in his anti-military farce Lysistrata.

The Old Comedy subsequently influenced later European writers such as Rabelais, Cervantes, Swift, and Voltaire. In particular, they copied the technique of disguising a political attack as buffoonery.

The legacy of Old Comedy can be seen in contemporary times in political satires such as Dr. Strangelove and in the televised buffoonery of Monty Python and Saturday Night Live"

No where do I get from Greek Comedy that comedy should be about 2 dying people being in love -there should be more to it than that. If the writer, John Hill, wants to make a "heartwarming" story about love, tell the people that it's going to be a sobb fest so they know to avoid it. Had I saw this in the movie theater, I'd have walked out. If I had purchased this DVD ($5 is what my parents got it for) I would be either running it over with my Nitro now instead of writing this bitching of a blog or getting ready to burn it the next time I go to the desert. As it happens, I could not finish this one. I walked out of the room. I was already crying and doing my best to not SOB until I went to bed crying. I took a shower and tried to wash away the depression of the movie.

After this posting, I'm going to be watching Clerks II - a movie that is a COMEDY which involves fly and piss in an asshole's burger and drink and some Interspecies Erotica. (That was totally unexpected and I could honestly do without.) But it is Kevin Smith, a man I truly admire - for his ingenuity and his foul fucking language. A writer/director who has no qualms about telling you like it is and doing whatever the fuck he wants in a movie.

Lastly, if you are one of those people that ADORED Message in a Bottle and every other depressing movie that Hollywood thinks all women want to see, then by all means - spend the 5 bucks on this movie and enjoy crying through the whole thing. I myself, would rather watch
Clerks II or The Punisher - where at least the people that kill Frank's family gets their fucking punishment. I'd even settle for Atonement or even Titanic. At least Titanic doesn't make you go through 102 minutes of a death scene that you thought was going to make you laugh.

Cat Sitting

Okay, so first off, last blog I mentioned that I had lost my camera charger....well I found it. IT was sitting right infront of my face as I typed that very blog. It was sitting right under the moniter. So yeah, I'm blind as a (bad) bat apparantly.

So, this week while my sis is in Cancun, I'm here cat sitting her lil guy, Jack. Okay, as many know I am a dog person, and while I've never had any cats, I never hated them either. My first "cat" friend was one named Keylee (Angel's cat) and she is adorable too. I've even got some pretty good pictures of her too. I've also been around tbe boyfriend's family's cats, Gizmo and Oreo. They are also just as cute as can be, especially when Oreo comes around and just starts scratching her face on the desk corner. And let me tell you that doesn't look comfortbable AT ALL!! But she loves the side of her mouth scratched. Gizmo will just lay there and let you pet him.

Now, being around Jack for the last few days, just one on one, boy do I love that fat cat!! :) he is just so fun! Now, he is a biter though....and I'm still hoping to just keep him distracted from biting me rather than just let him bite me. My sis is his chew toy, not me. ;) And I'm sure he really misses her cause he tries but I just won't let him.

So I've discovered my own way with him. When he's in play mode he is just ready to play with anything. I've taken the one string stick and wave it over his head and he jumps at it trying to catch it. And let me tell you, watching him twist in the air and try and land on his feet is hilarious, especially when 90% of the time he does....but that 10% of the time that he has that - what to call it - lapse of judgement? Classic! Specially when hes jumping and his back claws catch on the carpet and he ends up hitting the floor a lot sooner than he had planned. Hilarious! I was dying! But yet, he just gets back up and plays some more. Other times I think he's just embarrassed that he tripped and will walk away with his tail up an pretends it didn't happen. Then turns around and plays some more.

Then there was last night (all that was today), Last night I was watching "The Painted Veil" and he curled up on my lap and let me pet him. Just like there is nothing like a kiss from a dog, there is also nothing like the purr of a cat when he's happy. My sis told me that when he wants to be nice he will, and it is true.

So, this picture is a cell phone picture I took of him after we played. He wants to play now so I better go. Pet's are the greatest. Period.
